It was a great day, yesterday!
We started by eating breakfast at Red Umbrella. I was very pleased to see Albert behaving very proper the whole two hours! He played, he babbled and ate half of my butter toast and some of our pancake (of course after eating his normal breakfast at home so he ended up vomiting some of it on the carpet in the afternoon – which made Julian very happy, because he still can’t get over the fact we pay so much money for renting our furnished apartment).
We had our friends over for coffee and cake (oh yes, I have to tell you about the cake!), Julian made a delicious chili con carne and I got loads of happy birthday wishes from loads of people => it could have been a perfect day, except the cake happened…
I wanted to bake my own cake, but as some of you may know, our fully equipped apartment does not include a baking tray or cake-pan, or anything useful for baking any cake… Because I couldn’t find any tray in the stores nearby we ended up ordering it from amazon.ca But of course the delivery date is the 9th of November 🙂 So, to make a long story short: I had to buy a cake. I went to a bakery where we buy our bread (it’s called Bauernbrot and it almost tastes like the real deal) and I bought a strawberry rhubarb pie (you can see it on the picture). It looked nice but the taste was just horrible! It was the worst cake ever! The filling was red-ish, slimy and tasted nothing like either strawberry or rhubarb. To make it even worse: I had no idea one of our guests is allergic to strawberries…
So I got older and smarter on my birthday: I will never ever buy a cake again during my stay in Vancouver! That is a promise!
Ah, and if some of you are wondering what is inside the envelope in the picture it’s a new ME (yes, sooooooooooo slim)! The best husband in the world (sorry girls, he is mine!) gave me a voucher to the best spa place in Vancouver for the treatment called “opulent package”. Hah, don’t worry, I will not make any before-after pictures, but I sure will write something about it!
