Afterlife, Part III/B: The Bitter End

Don’t worry. The film industry and I, we have no tricks left up our sleeves. This will truly be the last post in the series. (Although I’m sure someone will, at some point, make the last part into its own trilogy. And then, a bit further down the road, any big trilogy will really be a trilogy of trilogies. Exciting times are ahead of us.) There won’t be many more after this one. Countdown! Four weeks until we’re back in Botnang!  Read more

Afterlife, Part III/A: A Perfect Storm

The movie industry never fails to squeeze the last cent out of your pocket have pleasantly surprising new ideas to help us spend more time with the characters, creatures and places we’re so enamored with. The reasoning is simple: you’ve been hooked in Part I, and after sitting through the rather horrendous Part II, you are now far too deeply invested to NOT watch the finale. So, why not spread the finale out over two parts? You’ll watch them, anyway. Why sell you one movie, when they can sell you two?  Read more

Afterlife, Part II: A Conspiracy Uncovered

The second part in a trilogy is usually inferior in quality to the first and last. Think about it – all the characters are already introduced and well on their way. The plot and background have been established, all the pieces are set in motion, the conflict is clear as day. And yet, nothing of import can be resolved, no major plot twists may happen, both the heroes and the villains are mostly safe from harm, no important story line can really be tied up. After all, there needs to be a grand finale, the boss fight and a surprising twist in the third part. And so they fill Part II with chase sequences, fight scenes, meandering dialogue and pretty pictures. As will we. Read more

Afterlife, Part I: End of an Era

Righty. It’s been a while, and we’ve taken a while longer to sort through all the photos, and then I’ve taken even longer to write stuff down. And because there’s a fair bit of material to chew through, let’s do a trilogy! Why not, they even made a trilogy out of the Hobbit, and that book is like four pages long. Also, let’s completely ignore the beautiful way our posts have been categorized, so far. Let’s mix Han Solo with Rollei photos and random bits and all. Revolution! Chaos! Anarchy! Read more

So Much More of Much the Same

With all the ambitious plans we had, I put the Rollei with our jackets and made sure I took it along whenever we left the apartment. After all those ambitious plans had failed miserably, the roll of film was full regardless. Full of pictures you’ve already seen a hundred times before, but we just hope it’s like that special song you love – you’ll tap your feet to the rhythm and hum along, even if it’s playing for the 37th time that day, because the DJ on the radio likes it even more than you do. So yeah. Albert and sunsets galore! Read more

Of Exposure And Salvation

Photo stuff ahead! You’ve been warned!

When was the last time you were looking forward to something? I mean really looking forward to it, not just, you know… thinking “Thank God it’s Friday tomorrow. I’m looking forward to the weekend.” No, not that kind. The kind where you actually picture every little step of something and can’t wait for it to happen. Read more

A Story of Missed Opportunities

Disclaimer: this one starts off a bit photography-centered. Just ignore the text, if you’re not interested in that stuff. 🙂

I was so ready to write a huge rant about the Rollei. Because, the photo above? That’s the first one in a series. Great light, with those hard shadows. Great color contrast, the warm house and cool t-shirt. I took six or seven pictures, of Tadzik, Lucja and Kazik. We even dressed them up. We played with the shadows. We had fun. Turns out, the shutter was stuck after that first photo. So it’s not the first one in a series, it’s the only one. Which kinda sucks. Read more

The Rollei

I’m a bit fed up with my huge, bulky Canon. And with everything the digital compact camera market has to offer. Nothing out there meets my criteria. Neither does the Rollei 35 S, but I was able to borrow it free of charge. From my mum, who bought it in the late 70s or early 80s. Whaddayaknow, it still shoots perfectly perfect pictures! The one above was shot in Granica forest, right next to Kampinos. Read more
