Afterlife, Part III/A: A Perfect Storm

The movie industry never fails to squeeze the last cent out of your pocket have pleasantly surprising new ideas to help us spend more time with the characters, creatures and places we’re so enamored with. The reasoning is simple: you’ve been hooked in Part I, and after sitting through the rather horrendous Part II, you are now far too deeply invested to NOT watch the finale. So, why not spread the finale out over two parts? You’ll watch them, anyway. Why sell you one movie, when they can sell you two?  Read more

Afterlife, Part II: A Conspiracy Uncovered

The second part in a trilogy is usually inferior in quality to the first and last. Think about it – all the characters are already introduced and well on their way. The plot and background have been established, all the pieces are set in motion, the conflict is clear as day. And yet, nothing of import can be resolved, no major plot twists may happen, both the heroes and the villains are mostly safe from harm, no important story line can really be tied up. After all, there needs to be a grand finale, the boss fight and a surprising twist in the third part. And so they fill Part II with chase sequences, fight scenes, meandering dialogue and pretty pictures. As will we. Read more

Afterlife, Part I: End of an Era

Righty. It’s been a while, and we’ve taken a while longer to sort through all the photos, and then I’ve taken even longer to write stuff down. And because there’s a fair bit of material to chew through, let’s do a trilogy! Why not, they even made a trilogy out of the Hobbit, and that book is like four pages long. Also, let’s completely ignore the beautiful way our posts have been categorized, so far. Let’s mix Han Solo with Rollei photos and random bits and all. Revolution! Chaos! Anarchy! Read more

Quotes

And a bit of fun from work, before I go back to work, which is tomorrow. After the last show wrapped, I came to my desk in the morning and found my screens and graphics tablet covered in post-it notes from various colleagues, who had gone through the trouble (?) of assembling this fine list. It might just be a nice thing to look back to in a few years. 🙂 Read more

Borders, Boulders, Plans

Of all the things we wanted to tick off our list, we only got one done: went down to the border. Picture it like this: Albert, totally excited to be in a car for two hours, Agnieszka chilling out while he smiles and entertains himself, me completely relaxed behind the wheel, enjoying the open road and clear, concise traffic guidance around Vancouver. Nothing wrong with a bit of fantasy, is there?

What Was That I Said? And Star Wars Spoilers.

“Didn’t they promise more posts? And pictures? And more and merrier?” We did, indeed. The thing is – everything has become so normal for us and we wouldn’t want to bore you. You go ahead and write a blog when nothing special ever happens, see how far you get. 🙂 But yes, of course, the seasons are a-changing, the wind has turned and turned again, warm sleet has transformed into cold rain, the sunsets come later and later every day, and – this is a big deal – I rode my bike home a few days ago and didn’t even need to turn on my lights!

A Sad And Lonely Place

It’s the last day on the show, and as is so often the case, it’s a looong day. I’m waiting for my shot to render, so I can go home (through a really miserable stormy and rainy night) to get a few hours of sleep. Tomorrow… well… later today we’ll finally finish, and I’ll hopefully get a full weekend afterwards. With my family. I hope they still know what I look like.

And then – promise! – there will be more and merrier posts on here. With more and merrier pictures. 🙂

Good morning, Europe! Have a great day!

Happy New Year!

So much has happened in the last few days, I don’t even know where to start. For example, in a final push we were able to finalize all the hard work, dedication, blood, sweat, tears and will-power that went into what we have decided to call ‘Last Year’ and have already started a new, even more ambitious project, tentatively titled ‘2016’. What’s that you’re saying? You came up with the same title for your current project?? Damn… well, anyway: good luck with that!  Read more

Season’s Greetings

Hey family and friends!

It’s a bit lonely without you. That’s true every day, but especially now, for Christmas. We’d like to have you around, to eat Vanillekipferl and Springerle with and reminisce about the past year. Hand out a few hugs, while we’re at it. And thank you for being such a magnificent bunch. It’s not the same without you.

Instead, we’ll head out to the beach and enjoy the sunshine and clear view of Vancouver Island today. You can’t have everything, right?

Y’all take care, be healthy and happy, and have a spectacular start into an equally spectacular 2016! We’re looking forward to seeing all of you again in person!

And now, in case you haven’t been seeing enough of Albert, here’s a look back at how far he’s come. 🙂 Enjoy. See you soon.

New Death Defying Adventures In the Canadian Wild And Other Stories

You will not believe what happened next. No, seriously, you will. It’s nothing special. But I thought, a little sensationalism wouldn’t hurt, after the decades we haven’t given a sign of life. After the great flood came and went. After the blizzard buried us in three snow flakes or four. After wild animals have taken over our habitat. After the days have turned to nights and the weekends to mere Sundays. Are you still following? Read more
