Excursions to the Lands of Villains and Giants

We’re on the home stretch now – only 4 weeks to go until my contract wraps up and we’re free to travel a bit, clear our heads, enjoy some jungle and some beaches, and head home to our (sort of) own four walls. Crazy! While ‘Solo’ has finally wrapped after some more painful Saturdays, the next project doesn’t look to be any better in terms of weekends. But we did some stuff, so here are some pictures. And little text (go ahead, cheer), because I’m lazy.

We went back to Sentosa once more. We didn’t spend as much time as we had planned, because of a passing thunderstorm, but we got to play in the sand, swim in the sea and get a sunburn, because what would a visit to the beach be without one? We went and ate dumplings which is always a treat. And we got sneakers for Albert because slipper time might be coming to an end sooner than we would wish for.

Kaspar, breaker of hearts.

“What are these, daddy?” We did something right, I guess.

Yo. Don’t you look at my lolly like that.

I work at a company that was founded specifically for the first Star Wars movie, and they live and breathe that heritage at the office. There are memorabilia, models, masks, helmets, figurines and posters everywhere. So, it came as no surprise when they announced Star Wars Day celebrations. As Sir Alec Guinness and his lisp used to say – ‘May the 4th be with you!’. For once, we were allowed on one of the Disney floors, where a few members of the 501st stormtrooper legion (yes, that’s a thing) stood by for selfies, and there was some lunch.

Cracking jokes with Lord Vader. THAT’s how you deal with the guy.

Also for Star Wars Day, I painted some rocks and we dropped them in the park. There’s a lively community for that over here, originally as an idea to give kids an incentive for being outside. It seems to work. And someone picked the rocks up and seems to like them enough to not hide them again for others. 🙂

We thought it might be good to do something crazy while we’re young, so we registered for the Star Wars Run, which was supposed to be fun, but was really just much too hot. We finished (Gaga with flying colours and I… uhm… well, finished) and got a t-shirt and a medal, which is all that counts, anyway. The surrounding challenges (like how are we even going to find each other in order to swap kids when there’s 15.000 people?) turned out to be no challenges at all and so, worth no more words. 🙂

Singaporeans just love to queue up.

Meeting an old friend.

Glorious chaos.

Yay, run packs and extra R2D2 pillow.

My mate Reetuj and I, hoping for those clouds to come over and join us. They never did. Also: blue shirts for the light side, red for the dark side. I’m totally on the dark side, but who can wear red?

Posing with the real heroes. They must be, how else would they survive at 34° in full costume?

Walking to the start area. This is usually a F1 race pit. Does my face look weird? Light side was the right choice, there were so many more people in red!

Made it!

We survived, and all we got is a bunch of t-shirts.

The Run started right next to the Flyer, Singapore’s giant Ferris wheel. Albert saw it and decided that he would love to go up there. So, in an attempt to be a lovable dad for once, I took him there the next day. He was a bit bored and later said that “it was cool, but I didn’t like it so much”. To my delight, he also didn’t like the Happy Meal I bought him afterwards, which I attribute exclusively to Gaga’s iron endurance at cooking for the kids. And thusly endeth my vain endeavor to have a pleasant day with my first-born.

Tired even before we went up there, so…

…we fixed the situation the only way that makes sense.

Exploring an interactive history book.

Figuring out the camera.

Gardenspiderbay.

Marina Bay.

Terribly tired after the disappointing excursion, so…

…we fixed the situation the only way that makes any sense. 🙂

That’s all for now. I don’t even have a sunset. But there’s a trailer for the movie I’m working on now, and it’s… well… yeah. One of those.

And then there’s this gem. Just in case you find yourself in the dire and unfavorable position of being on vacation and not having brought the nanny along. Who’s going to take care of the kids while you sip a fancy cocktail in the rooftop infinity pool? Remember:

Because there is insurance for everything. Bye for now!
